Hello all,
I am holding a Canadian CPL, needs to get a Hawker400XP type rating down in the States. Do I need to convert my Canadian CPL to the FAA CPL in the first place before I take the course?

Happy Holiday, have a great one

Your question is rather vague. Perhaps incomplete as well.

Are you an FAA Commercial Pilot certificate holder?
If not, perhaps a conversion would be wise.

If you want an FAA type rating then it would be for the FAA certificate you don't hold.
No FAA certificate no FAA type rating.

If you want it on your Canadian licence then you don't need an FAA certificate or type rating. You need a Canadian type rating. Different course. Different requirements. Different skill test.

An FAA type rating doesn't go on a Canadian licence that easily. Unless you have an FAA certificate with the type on it, and apparently, you don't. If you do then it's just a matter of paperwork to have it added to your Canadian CPL. Simple.

If you want the type rating on your Canadian CPL you will need a Transport Canada examiner for your type rating checkride and depending on the organization where you take the course, they may not have someone on site "approved" to conduct it.

Keep it simple. Why not get it put on your Canadian CPL and forget about the FAA certificate for now?
