Currency-T/O-LNDING in 35days?

Can anyone help?...If a captain of a 2 crew ACFT has not completed a take off and landing in 35 days and has say gone 40 days between such, how can currency be regained? In the simulator for type? Or normal passenger flight with a line training captain occupying the right seat or does it have to be base training?....or would there be any case for a dispensation from the relevent authority. Accordong to JAR-OPS 1.970 that's no problem as the requirement is for 3 take-offs and landings in 90 days.

If he/she goes beyond 90 days the recency requirement is satisfied by a training flight in an aeroplane or an approved simulator.
