Dear All,

Is there are requirement to have the pilot the RWY in sight in order to transfer it to TWR frequency?

Is there any document where I can find more about VOR/DME procedures from ATC perspective ... an ICAO, EUROCONTROL or whatever.

Thanks in advance.

I fly in the USA and it is quite normal not to see the runway with approach control, normally one would switch to tower at the FAF (final approach fix).

In the UK you only change to tower when you're told to, or if you have reason to believe approach has had a comms failure.

Hi,

I don't think there's a relation between switching freq and having the field in sight (In Europe).
As said, you switch freq when told so (or give a try if you suspect a R/T failure), sometimes a TWR controller wishes to have you earlier on frequency (in case of departure ahead for example...).
From what I hear quite often, switching to TWR can happen after you report fully established.
