OK peeps get this. My local a/d operator has recently changed the fuel instalation thingy so that it no longer auto cuts off when the tank is full. This means that often a/c are swimming in fuel, outside the tanks, when it is not possible to see in the tank as it is filled. I am told that this a european rule to bring us into line with the lower saftey standards on the continent. Apparently if you go to a car filling station and the auto cut off is not working, the pump has to be shut down as it is not safe.

Is the true is is it just another cretinous action by the a/d management?

:(

That sounds silly and, as you say, potentialy lethal

They'll probably issue you with a packet of Disque Bleu or Gaulois and a Zippo so that you can have a quick drag whilst pouring avgas all over the place.

Trying to work out which a/c you cannot see into the tank as you fill it? Never had any fuel bowser over here, aviation wise anyway, that did cut out. (Car ones do) I was always taught NEVER leave unattended while refuelling, so what is the problem really?
Just curious.........
