I would like to telnet to my cheap and nasty Tenda 150 modem/router to get a few more line stats than it offers via the CP. Username admin but all known passwords rejected. Anyone know?

The default password is also admin, but I suspect you knew that already. There's always the PITA method of the 'restore factory settings' button

Yes, tried that, but this password is not the same as the p/w for the router cp (which works fine) and I have never changed the telnet p/w! I think I read somewhere that some routers do not allow telnet access?

If you telnet to the IP address of the router and get a blank page, rather than a login prompt, the chances are that your router doesn't support it or it's not enabled.

To clarify -

1) Router uses a Broadcom 96328 chip
2) I need the default ie 'factory' password if anyone knows. 'sh' was suggested but does not work and nor does admin.

Try 'ps'

If that doesn't work have a read through this:

Sorry, replace stars with the usual blog spot

Otherwise try: aa ab ac...................................................zz :E:E

Neither ps or epicrouter worked.

GG - embarrassed to ask - may I have a crossword clue for 'usual blog spot'?:)

Hmmmm the info I found seem to suggest they were all the same family.

Have a look here (https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=17370&p=25) then, you might find something useful but it's well above my current geek level

Joining you on the 'under-geeked' train:)

If you can't telnet to it and the CP doesn't do it, it may be that a different router would be a nifty idea. I've got lots of them in a large box in the workshop - want me to fish one out?

Keef - that's very kind, but no thanks. Routers are pretty cheap anyway these days. I will just live without the info. until I change the router again.

Have you tried E-Mailing tenda support?

Well, the firewall settings on my hacked BT router have a box to allow/disable telnet. So it shows it will support telnet and that I've allowed it. Is there anything in the firewall settings similar to this ?

Couldn't find anything on 'cheap and cheerful'. Nothing back from tenda yet.
