Hi all, need to renew my UK ATPL, been told by the CAA that I need to undertake an English proficiency exam. CAP 804 isn't all that clear where I can do this.

Any one have any ideas?

Cheers

Hi hope this helps:

CAA statement that requires pilots to renew Language proficiency: Pilots asked to renew language requirement | CAA Newsroom | About the CAA (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=14&pagetype=65&appid=7&mode=detail&nid=2190)

SRG1199: Application for Record of English Language Assessment: SRG1199: Application for Record of English Language Assessment | Publications | About the CAA (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=33&pagetype=65&appid=11&mode=detail&id=3060)

CAA statement regarding who they except to conduct language proficiency evaluations:
ICAO Language Proficiency | Pilots | Personal Licences and Training (http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=1688&pagetype=90)

If you call FCL they may approve your last (or next) LPC examiner to conduct the evaluation.

If the previous examiner can give a retrospective pass, why should the CAA not be able give a pass on the phone....after all if you have to spend 30 mins answering stupid questions, and providing the responsive and correct answers, the requirements have been satisfied.

Or perhaps the author of CAP804 failed the exam too.

After all the FAA assume that if you have been able to obtain a ATP, thus they give a proficient validation.

All UK FEs TREs and CREs are approved as English Language Assessors by CAA ( as long as they are recorded as being English Level 6 themselves).

The question being how that assessment can be made, which has been discussed over and again on other threads - see my last Post on the "Instructors and Examiners" forum.

As Warm Beer has a UK ATPL I will assume he also has a UK FRTOL - which means he will previously have been automatically given Level 4 in 2008.

This is therefore a renewal//revalidation and he just needs to get SRG 1199
sigened - which any UK FE/CRE/TRE can do after a quick chat to confirm
he is, in fact, Level 6.

If in UK then pop down to your local airfield (with SRG1199 printed off and in hand) and find a "friendly" FE.

Job done.
