Staff at Prestwick Centre are stunned by the death of friend and colleague Mark 'Dicko' Dickson who was killed in his Nimbus glider on take off at Portmoak a couple of days ago.

He was a jovial and genuine guy and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He loved his gliding and was very experienced, which makes the accident all the harder to believe.

Worked with Mark in the RAF and socialised as well. Never saw him have a cross word with anyone, was knowledgeable, engaging and great fun to be around.

Thoroughly enjoyed his Gliding updates via Facebook and has been said before - he was bloody good!

Gutted by the news. Soar high and far Mad-dog!!

One of the genuinely nice guys of the ATC world. Never heard him say anything bad about anyone and likewise anything said about Mark was always good. He just enjoyed life. RIP Mark and thoughts with your family.

Everyone liked Mark; his grin was infectious.

Unfortunately this accident occurred on my watch: however, this has allowed me to reassure Andy and Mark’s family, that the end was instantaneous and that Mark did not suffer.

The funeral service is to be held on Tuesday 18th of September at St Meddans church, Troon at 2pm and afterwards at Troon cemetery from 3pm.

It's comforting to read your comments about Mark - he'd appreciate them. And thanks for the messages of support.

I've been away and just read this - happy days in the RAF and in Germany fondly remembered. Best wishes Andy.
