MARGO (Lawson/Cartwright) R.I.P

Those who fly in or control airspace around the Scottish Borders will be well aware of the reporting point, MARGO.

It was named in honour of one of the Scottish Air Traffic Assistants, Margo Cartwright nee Lawson. Margo retired from the job around 3 years ago but has been suffering from cancer in recent years.

Sadly, Margo lost her battle with the disease and died today.

Those of us who worked with her or know her will all have our own memories of the lady. For me, she always came across as a formidable character, but one who always had the best interests of her colleagues at heart, fighting hard in particular for the ATSA graded staff at Scottish Centre. She could be like a dog with a bone if an issue was important to her, but this determination won her many battles with management.

Socially, I remember a few good times in her company as well.

RIP MARGO. Your mark will hopefully remain on UARs UN601 and UN590 for a long time to come.

Margo was one of the 'characters' of ATC, and although we didn't always see eye-to-eye, I had the greatest of respect for her- a colleague who always gave her best and who was not afraid to say what she thought. RIP.

I was introduced to Margo by Ron Harrison on my first day on the Watch. She was playing the bandit in the canteen. We hit it off from the first and have been friends ever since. A dry sense of humour and a heart of softest gold. First Brian and now Margo. I bet they are smoking a fag and playing a bandit somewhere. So long Pal. We will miss You.

RIP Margo....she didnt suffer fools glady and would not be shy in letting you know that......despite everything though she had a heart of gold....and a bloody good jam maker too.....it was a pleasure to work with her on E Watch and also at times recieve the full force of her wrath!!!....Margo you will be sadly missed....RIP my dear. :{

Many a happy time I spent at Scottish with Margo. She was a great lass who played hard and was a great colleague. I can still remember being taken under her wing on my posting from Prestwick Airport to Atlantic House. I can still remember taking my kids to see her menagerie at Barassie. Who remembers standing at the back of her TR7 getting our union cheque during the 1970's strike? Always a kind word and great fun. You'll be missed Margo. Thanks for the yearly Christmas Cards and hope the Puggie up there gives you better wins the the Scottish ones! RIP

I first met Margo in 1978. She was like a galleon in full sail. Impressive and not to be trifled with. She knew her job inside out and was a pleasure to work with.

Margo Trickett at West Drayton who was another senior lady supervisor, well respected, well liked, loved even, but would defend her staff to the hilt against all comers.

I heard that she was one of the original WAAF plotters during the Battle of Britain.

How NATS staff need that kind of individual with respect and integrity now.

Sad news - RIP Margo. I must've first met Margo in 1972 at Redbrae and have happy memories of her, including on Controller's Cup trips!

I well remember the many "Drinkathons" we made her hold at Brassie , and how sober we all must have been for our next shift !!!

She was such a shoulder for me during my time on E watch when I got into a bit of trouble followed by the death of my dad.
But her great humour and willingness to listen (and those bloody birds!!) were such a help to me during my bad times (thanks to Geraldine as well )

I wanted to come on Friday but Flybe wanted me to Mortgage my house to come up .

As said earlier you will be up there with Brian strumming his fingers with his bottle of Irn Bru play "chase the Lady" ever night now.

As a Mil Asst at Atlantic House I didn't know Margo personally, but knew of her.

I did not work with her, but as a Mil Asst I requested clearances from her on numerous occasions, otherwise us mil bods would not have known her.
When I was training people, I would point her out as the person whom MARGO (N54° 42.45’ W002° 46.48’) was named after.

A sad loss.

Margo, or auntie margo to me , she worked with my mother in the raf and have so many fond memories, she was a great cook and did not take fools gladly lol I know that a way point had been named after her but never had the opportunity to 'chat' on the RT with her, not heard from her in a while apart from Christmas cards and didn't know about her 'illness' I hope she got. I have never met Margo, but spend much of my life going via MARGO for the Tweed arrivals into Edinburgh. Some of the crusty old skippers I flew with told me stories about the naming of the waypoint and I am glad to hear they were true in part. There was another story about the location of the waypoint I'm not sure it would be appropriate to mention here.

Always a particularly sad moment to lose one of an organisation's characters.
