Hi folks,
A few days ago in Iraklion( LGIR) during visual approach I faced with a clearance:"cleared visual RW 27, descent to TRAFFIC ALTITUDE, contact tower....." What does TRAFFIC ALTITUDE mean? All comments will be appreciated. From my point of view, I may descent to standart altiude for visual approach, which is usually 1500 feet AGL .

I believe what controller meant is Traffic pattern (circuit) altitude.

Dunno, it's all Greek to me...

Quite right, they mean traffic pattern altitude, as pointed 1500 AGL.

Did you ask what he/she meant?

Confirm descent clearance level/altitude? etc... Why seek an answer here, the controller who you were speaking to knew what he/she meant, even if you didn't... Don't be afraid to ask.

I rather dare to say traffic altitude is MDA for circle to land for a given rwy....
Happy ldgs

MDA refers to instrument approach while hevlad was talking of a visual approach, so they actually meant "traffic pattern altitude"
