Question. Is it correct to ask a Military airfield "Request basic service & Matz transit" in one sentence or does one request countermand the other, & I should leave the type of service up to the controller? Negative sqwark by the way.
Thoughts please.

I've always done it in one sentence as did my instructor. Don't forget you are asking the station for a service, it's your decision on what type of service you require, the station can always refuse a traffic service for example if they are too busy at that time. If you ask them, it saves time on the radio when they come back to you asking what type of service you require.

Hope that helps.

Alex

Edit: I've heard people just say their callsign on the initial call and for a service and transit at the end on their full message.

Thanks, I wondered if a zone crossing automaticly requires some form of "control" at their discretion. Must admit I have always done it that way & not been questioned though I get the impression that Mil controllers are more laid back sometimes, often "Transit approved, proceed as planned". Translated as "Whatever!!"

MATZ is not controlled airspace and a request for transit is merely a courtesy. You must still follow the normal rules for ATZ though. If you haven't a transponder you could still get a traffic service as long as they can identify you on primary radar.

First call, tell them who you are and what you want and that's it. They may be busy.

When they acknowledge (and have picked up their pen) give them the rest of the info.

:ok:

Nothing wrong with what you are doing crash.

Have a read up on what a MATZ is though to a civi pilot.

Thanks people,
Yes Jock I believe it is legal to just say nowt & sail through, not exactly a good idea though!
My thought was that as I had asked for the crossing I should therefore accept their "rules"/service.
I shall continue.

Hi Crash,

Remember there are two parts. The MATZ and the ATZ inside the MATZ (the magenta bit). The ATZ can be active independantly of the MATZ and may have different hours. The ATZ does need a clearance.

Generally Leuchars is H24 for both unless notamed differently.

What you're doing sounds fine to me.

Edited to say sorry. Looks like johnm covered this already.

D.O. yes I know the two parts, I've sometimes called them usually weekends/Friday afternoon & got "Matz closed, proceed as planned. dunno if that includes the ATZ.
Who was it asked for a transit & got "Transit approved, not above 200ft"?

Most Government aerodrome ATZs are H24. ENR 2-2-2-1 Refers.

I may just do that wx permitting. I could taxi that far but it might be a bit bumpy. Be nice to try their version of 24.
Edit: how does one get the PPR form fro SAC.
Just tried to register/login & getting "invalid everything"?

Both FFC and SAC have flyouts there. 30th is the last day to register whether flying in or driving.

OK I'm a bit late , how do I get the "form" to fill in?
I'll email Iain Waghorn?
Phone Leuchars Monday?
I'm not a member of FFC.
I'll see what I can do.
