Great shame, I guess more shops, a few houses, convert the listed buildings into care homes, childrens nurseries and a few "sheltered care" projects and Bob's your uncle - sold, dusted and another airfield gone.

Its fairly old news and was on the BBC website back in June

It's at's all doom and gloon with you GEP....;)
I was talking with a member of ther gliding club on Sunday, and things are looking better than you think.
The local council, very much want Bicester to stay an airfield. The whole airfield is listed, not just the hangers etc, and the bomb dump is a scheduled monument, so that can't be touched.
It just needs them to find the money to buy it, or someone who is happy to let them stay.
IMHO this is not going to be an issue.
So I don't think an other airfield gone!

Biscester Airpark....now thats an idea. Its about time the UK had an Airpark as there are plenty springing up all over Europe and not just in the USA.
Last year I carried out research for my MSc dissertation on European Airparks, visiting ones in Swden and France and meeting people developing Airparks in Belgium, Switzerland, Lithunia and Serbia to name a few places and the developers proposing to create an Airpark in Turkey,

My findings actually helped the Airpark in Belgium to get planning permission!

And now that I've got my PPL(A) I can go and visit lots more of them.

Cherwell District Council are indeed keen that RAF Bicester should be preserved as a national museum and that the aerodrome should continue to operate.

There was some good news in the local paper recently: Joint venture to turn RAF airfield into military museum (From Oxford Mail) (http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/yourtown/bicester/9860489.Joint_venture_to_turn_RAF_airfield_into_military_mus eum/)

Hopefully they'll win their bid and the site won't simply be flogged off by some MoD beancounters for yet more housing in this increasingly overcrowded town.

I know that the Boultbee academy were looking to buy an airfield at which to base the Spitfire. They wanted to create the atmosphere of a wartime airfield from which to fly the Spit. Now that would be cool!
