Indian Visa

Thought someone may be able to help here.
I would like to go to India for a holiday, but the visa application process requires me to hand my passport over while they process it.
Has anyone been able to get a visa without doing this?
Clearly I can't let my passport out of my hands for several days as I need it for work.

You can pay more money to the embassy and they will give you the visa in a day or two. I guess it's called fast track

Yeah I used fast track for an Indian Visa and my passport was there and back in a few days. Cost a few hundred pounds though. Well, my company anyway.
