Hi

A non pilot friend of mine was on a flight out of Afghanistan recently. She said that apparently civil flights are limited to max FL280 in afghan airspace and wanted to know why. I suggested it's some military restriction but it's o ly a guess. Anyone know the answer ?

Have crossed Afghanistan airspace above FL280 several times. Unless there has been a change recently (have not been in the area during the last 3 months), I don't know what your friend is talking about.

Cheers,

If landing in Afghanistan, normally FL280 at the FIR boundary inbound. You will also usually be restricted to FL280 outbound until you get clearance from Karachi or whoever.

I've heard the drones have a block altitude allotted to them. Going in or out it's 280 at/till the FIR. Perhaps an overflight is above the block.
