Is there an upper age limit for these scholarships? I am 49. It has always been my ambition to learn to fly, and I started flying lessons in my 20's but I couldn't afford to continue with it. Have been running my own business since - still can't afford it, though.

Hi,

Does anyone know whether you receive a letter if your application has been unsuccessful, or do they only send out letters to those that have been selected for interview?

cheers

Hi,

I am unsure if letters are sent out to unsuccessful applicants, but you should receive a letter through the post if you are invited to interview.

There is no upper age limit, certainly for the PPL scholarships. However, my impression is that it is certainly advantageous if the scholarship is part of a larger general flying/career plan.

Guild scholarships aren't the only ones available though. I set up UK Flying Scholarships Database and Advice Centre (http://www.flyingscholarship.com)UK Flying Scholarships Database and Advice Centre (http://www.flyingscholarship.com) a couple of weeks ago as a database for UK flying and aviation scholarships. Development is currently on hold for my final exams, but the website is complete and functioning.

Hope that helps,

If you take a look at the guild website on the scholarships page (http://WWW.GAPAN.ORG/career-matters/scholarships/) it states:

'Approximately 400 applications have been received, many of an extremely high standard. The "sifting" process has now commenced and candidates will know if they have been invited to interview by 18th April. All correspondance will be by email.'

I applied for a PPL scholarship a good few years ago. I was unsuccessful. GAPAN did take the time to write and inform me of that which I appreciated.
