Evening all,

I'm looking for some advice.

I'm looking to get in to aviation safety as a career, probably in the next few years and I want to do some training to prepare for it. To that end, I'm looking to do a few courses in aviation flight safety and just wondered if anyone could recommend any?

Ideally it would be distance learning (Open University style).

Many thanks in advance.

Hi fantaman,

a couple of years ago I was in the same situation - curious about aviation safety, but left with the feeling that I needed some qualification before I could knock on our safety department's door.

I started to study towards a Bachelor's degree at Embry-Riddle with a minor in Aviation Safety.

Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics, Worldwide , Embry-Riddle (http://worldwide.erau.edu/degrees/undergraduate/professional-aeronautics/index.html)
Aviation Safety, Worldwide , Embry-Riddle (http://worldwide.erau.edu/degrees/minors/aviation-safety/index.html)

The study is done completely online. It requires, however, that you can spend about 8-15 hrs per week per class you are taking. Also, in order to get the degree, you will have to take a lot of classes that are not strictly relevant to safety, e.g. Math. I found their safety-related classes quite good and it helped me get job in safety.

Alternatively, you could also go straight for a graduate degree at City Universtiy London.

PM me if I can be of any assistance.
