Hi All,

a group of friends are looking to fly out in a light twin this summer with the intention to hire a decent chateau for 2-3 days.

Immediate thoughts are somewhere around the Loire or similar distance from London.

Would be grateful for any helpful thoughts as to location(s) or recommendations. Preference near an aerodrome too! Open minded.

Many thanks in advance,

Aérodrome privé du Château la Chassagne (Bourgogne) (http://www.aerodrome.chassagne.com/index.htm)
never been there, but nothing beats having a chateau with your own private aerodrome

Its well worth a visit, fantastic hotel and food and you can go and do a tour of the vineyards! No fuel, but Dijon is not far away and there is also the aeroclub at the Robin factory which is about 5 mins flying time away.

You can also go on a river cruise with them as well.

Nuits-St-Georges is pretty awesome too - middle of the wine-making region, and the chateau is a gem. Can't go wrong!!!

Whilst Chassagne is nice it was closed for refurb last summer. Not sure its current status.

Monhoudou is nice and lovely people.... but I'm not sure I'd take a light twin with 4 up in there - high trees, upslope at one end, cables at the other? . Parking can also be a bit tight. You've two hopes of rooms here during the run up to Le Mans as well.

Epernay-Plivot is good for Champagne and decent runways - don't know which (if any) chateaus are rentable - but there is plenty of 5* accommodation around.

If you want a bit more of a run - Carcassone Hotel de la Cite is 5* and the walled city is well worth a look see. La Rochelle or Il de Re is also a pleasant place to wander around.

I have stayed twice at the Chateau de l`Aubriere near Tours.Excellent food ,service and surroundings.Run by the Comtesse de Lussac (the chef is the Comte! ) Great swimming pool and park /woodlands.
We went there as a group of about 15 and almost took over the whole place for the weekend ! Short taxi ride from Tours airportwhere you can take off and land amongst the Alphajets of the Armee de l`air training school.Find the chateau online .

Tours, Limoges and Chateauroux all have airports within striking distance of any number of chateaux and fine restaurants.
