The original post isn't very clear but possibly he means discontinuing the aproach to a runway and manoeuvring to another (parallel) runway? I've heard it called, visual switch, visual change, side swap and the one I prefer 'the other one':E, I've not seen any official definition apart from similar 'visual manoeuvring'!

At 1:54 in the famous BA038 777 accident video (is this Gonzo?) ATC refer to it as a 'visual switch' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJNVVlBPi8M.

Maybe it's not much but you may start with - the definition from Jeppesen RM, Introduction page 20:

SIDESTEP MANEUVER — A visual maneuver accomplished by a pilot at the completion of an instrument approach to permit a straight-in landing on a parallel runway not more than 1200 ft to either side of the runway to which the instrument approach was conducted.
