Hi guys,

I would like your expertise opinion on this question. Which are the best headsets in the market? Which would you recommend? I m doing the Q400 TR and hopefully in some weeks I 'll be flying it.

I ve heard that the noise in the cockpit isnt so loud and some pilots use "jet" headsets. What do you say?

Thank you in advance

P.S: I 've already checked the Sennheiser S1 and Bose A20 and seem to be the best choice...

Yeah I'd go for a proper headset like the ones you mentioned for a Q400...

I used to use Telex 850s. Then I went to Sennheiser KA25s. Now I've just got the Bose A20s. (Flying a Hawker bizjet)

The Bose A20s are far and away the best headset I've worn. Incredible clarity of sound. Not too heavy (used to use David Clarks in t/props etc) and very good.

Downside. The expense. But what is your hearing worth?

Thank you guys for the replies ;)

I m looking also for a review from the S1 as they seem comfortable and technologically advanced

Don't forget that if your company doesn't issue you with a noise canceling headset you are entitled to claim back the cost of buying one yourself from your capital allowance through HMRC: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM50054.htm

+1 for the Bose, been using it for a year now (albeit on the 737) and absolutely love it. More comfortable than the 'light' HMEC26 my colleagues wear and judging by test reports with NC superior to the S1.

What Bose exactly did you get?is it comfortable for flights up to 5 hours?
Thanks a lot.

The only one on sale right now, the A20 - I would say it's very comfortable, no problem on five hour legs, doesn't hurt even on 14 duty hour days.

Unfortunately my airline (also 737) requires an ear off in the cockpit. Hence going for the HMEC-26.

I looked for a while but never found any place cheaper than another. But as stated before if your company doesn't provide a noise cancelling headset then you can reclaim a significant portion of the expense back from hmrc. I personally think its brilliant. Use it regularly on 4 hour plus sectors and never get uncomfortable.

I got my HMEC-26 from Headset Services Ltd and they were very helpful and had the cheapest price by a long shot.
I noticed they stock the Bose also, but have no idea how competitive their pricing is. Worth a look maybe.

I bought both Bose A20 and the Lightspeed Zulu, and the Bose is a tiny bit better. But it doesn't justify the price difference and I often choose the Zulu over the Bose.

So you bought both but dont use the Bose because its pricier?
