I'm planning a family excursion to Clashnessie, Lochinver, Sutherland (see:- Wikimapia (http://wikimapia.org/#lat=58.2478429&lon=-5.3439903&z=13&l=0&m=h) ).
Nearest major airport is Inverness, but is there a suitable 'airfield' or landing strip where a light aircraft (four seats) might be able to land that would be closer?

The problem then would be onward transport - so airline to Inverness then rental car might be the only practical solution.

Sadly the nearest would be Dornoch - about 70 miles from Clashnessie. But it's a lovely strip, and a nice drive from there to Clashnessie. Don't know about car hire in Dornoch but you'll usually find a local garage that'll rent you something. And light aircraft to Dornoch plus car hire is MUCH nicer than commercial to Inverness. No hangarage or security at Dornoch but in the past I've popped in to the local police station and asked them if they'd mind keeping an eye on the plane - they were delighted!

Alternatively you could go to Dickie Bird's strip at Easter (http://www.maukair.com/airfield.html), which is tucked away from public view and Dickie will keep an eye on your aeroplane. A bit further to drive to Clashnessie but not much in it - and Dickie will advise you on car hire.

Haven't been to Clashnessie since 1968 but it's a beautiful place. Have a nice holiday!

Easter details are on the LAA Highland & Islands strut website:

Easter PPR at: http://www.maukair.com/PPR.html (http://www.maukair.com/PPR.html)
I've known Dornoch to be (rarely) unusable due to surface water in winter. There's a Mooney kept there, but the owner lives several miles away. DB's Piper is kept at Easter, which is more secluded.
Hangarage is unlikely at Inverness, but you might get to tie down on the grass near the GA Hangar. The grass apron is exposed.
