Heard rumours today of 90 WSOps getting redundancy in Tranche 2 next year.
Anyone got any gen on how this may break down amongst the AEOps/Crewmen/Loadies? Are there guys and girls in the training system at risk?

I hadn't considered the rotary angle. I figured it would be fixed wing taking the pain. Surely most of the Merlin crewman would be given an option to join the dark blue?

Where are the 200 siggies? - That seems a high number. In 18Gp in the mid 80s we had 4 squadrons of around 60 AEOp on each plus OCU, GSU and so on - maybe 300 or 350 flying in total plus 51 Sqn, SAR and misc. so maybe 400 or 450 all told.

I am surprised to hear there are still 200 airborne jobs.

Would be happy to stand corrected!

Not sure why you would think that? The RN have enough cuts of their own to contend with
More importantly how many do you think would want to anyway?!

By AEOp I meant WSOp Sensor, of both wet and dry persuasions.

I'd certainly consider it over civvy street.

One of us is missing something...I thought RAF wet men had gone the way of the Dodo and my 32 inch waist???

I'm sure there are a few dotting around the bazaars, but surely the RAF are not recruiting and training any more? Ain't no job for em.

Edited to note that, yep I know technically they are all WSOPs (generic) outwith the Ex Kipper Fleet...but you know what I mean. RAF sans wetties is the future.

Well my last OCU was a Kipper FLeet one so technically i am still an AEOp (Aco), though i'd happily take redundancy if offered!

Not forgetting the AEOp's on E3's, Sentinal and Shadow.

Let's hope it's only 90...it could be lot more if we hear the future of Merlin/Puma between now and January 17th...
