Does anyone have a copy of the serious Pilot's Prayer which contains a phrase about flying into the sky and seeing the face of God? A friend's father was killed in a small plane crash and no one can find a copy of this which they wanted to read at the services. Please email me if you know where I could find this. Thank you very much.

Alton, I think you mean "High Flight", a poem by John Gillespie Magee Jr., a Canadian. It says what a lot of pilots feel about flying, and I'd certainly like it read at my funeral.

I reprint it here:-

High Flight

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air,
Up, up the long delirious burning blue.
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew;
And while with silent uplifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God!

Is this what you are after????

The Pilots Prayer

Oh Controller, who sits in Tower
Hallowed be thy sector
Thy traffic come, thy instructions be done
On the ground as they are in the air.
Give us this day our radar vectors
And forgive us our TCA incursions
As we forgive those who cut us off on finals.
And lead us not into adverse weather,
But deliver us our clearances.
Roger.

I thought the universal pilot prayer was: "Lord, dont let me f*ck up!"

Atleast that is what Tom Wolfe taught me in "The Right Stuff."

During the Battle Of Britain, one pilot was overheard to say the following:-

"Oh God - if there is a God,
Save my soul - if I have a soul."

It was the poem that HugMonster posted. The service is today and I am sure that it will touch a lot of people as it is very appropriate.

Thanks again.
