Hi there,
Would someone be kind enough to explain how the sidetone is added to the analogue audio signal you hear through the headset when you transmit through the VHF-COM. (When compared to, for example, the intercom)
Secondly on an average GA radio, what wattage output does the radio have for transmission?
Many thanks for any answers.
Cheers,
Tom :)

I'll bypass the side-tone for a more technical type to answer!

Typical Tx power on GA radios is 7W - handheld transceivers are mostly 5W.

The only VHF com radio I've seen demodulated a bit of the output for the sidetone. But I've only ever seen one - my field has been more military/radar/civil comms and EMC.
