It is time that the Regulators look at the Aviation Safety (http://www.avmed.in/2011/01/lost-sleep-compromised-safety/) rather than falling in line with the EU regulations (http://www.avmed.in/2011/11/an-appeal-for-safe-flying-balpa-on-tired-pilots/). Safety remain paramount, whatever the compulsions be.
Air India pilots have had a close brush with such a change in regulation (http://www.avmed.in/2010/12/unsafe-deceit-air-india-extends-pilots-duty-hours/) through the backdoor, not so long ago...
