View Full Version : What happened to the BA and Virgin pilots that were made redundant?

In the past few weeks we have seen airlines lay off pilots left, right and center.

Where did BA and Virgin make there cuts, at the top or at the bottom of the seniority list? What kind of experience do these guys have and where are they going?

Rumour says airlines like Go, easyjet, RyanAir and Emirates are having a field day recruiting these experienced pilots...

Virgin are now to take people from the bottom of the seniority list rather than from the Classic fleet. This is a fairer system but more lengthy and costly due to cross training senior crew onto other fleets.

BA are still trying to lose people through voluntary means - early retirement (not an option if you are looking for a decent pension)
- unpaid leave, ok for guys who can take up a military reserve appointment.
- part-time.

200 Pilots to reach retirement date in next 12 months and similar no.s, though slightly less, in the next 2 consecutive years.

Voluntary options unlikely to yield the no.s BA are hoping for so their option is to carry some "fat" for a year or so, or take people from the bottom of the list.

GO, Easy and Ryan are taking 737 rated pilots as their priority.
