Just a quick one:

I understand that an ultra-long haul scheduled flight is anything over 10hrs.

What is the longest scheduled non-stop flight in the world?

Any airline/aircraft, between any 2 airports.

Just asking out of interest. Thanks in advance!

Newark (EWR) to Hong Kong (HKG) as touted by Continental Airlines as being the longest sheduled departure to date. It runs somewhere up near 15 hours or so depending on the weather. Not the best route though, the aircraft is very weight restricted. Russia recently allowed access to polar routes which has made flights such as this possible.

although not a scheduled route, longest ever sector by a commercial aircraft i heard of was in the early 747-400 days of operations. Qantas 747-400 on a delivery flight direct from lhr-syd. a/c towed towards runway before departure, only crew/crew's and a few press officials and a hell of alot of fuel on board.

dosen't SAA fly south africa to nyc? must be along one also!

SAA does fly JNB to JFK, but makes one stop in SID (Cape Verde). Total elapsed time is 18h 10min, but the legs are 9hrs and 7hrs.

Continental EWR to HKG is listed as 15hr 55min

Did a 14 hour stint SIN - CDG last year, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

And for those who want to take this a little further, the shortest scheduled flight in the world is Westray to Papa Westray up in the Islands of Scotland in a BN2 and is 7 whole minutes long. Anyone done it?

Is it true that the distance in the air from WRY to PPW is less than the runway length?

The time-table shows this flight as only 2 minutes (depart 0939, arrive 0941). Do they serve champange and canapes on board?

I heard that the papa westray flight might be the first flight to be made backwards oneday when there are very strong head winds, or tailwinds depending how you lokk at it! they will take off, climb. slow cruise and travel backwards over the ground, ie a negative groundspeed, then descend and land at the next island, all without making a single heading change!

as for longest flights, LHR - syd via singapore is a flight I had the misfortune to be aboard just last week, (OK its great to actually be here)
anyway, with just over 1 hr at singapore, during which time we managed just 20 mins off the plane, I was in my seat for 22hrs 45mins including boarding time etc. way too long if you ask me. I'm the kind of person who has to plan a dehydation programme for a trip to le touquet otherwise its unscheduled stops at lydd for the loo!

Dude~
Done that one a few times myself as pax. Also, done SY-LHR via BKK. Basicly just as long and boring but BKK terminal isn't as nice.
Heading back to the UK soon too... Wish I could afford business class.

Did SYD - SIN - CDG last year and checked in at Cairns that morning for all the 4 sectors back to London, now THAT was a trip and a half.

However, Qantas messed up our seats so we complained at SIN and got upper deck business class all the way back to CDG, aaaaah. Luxury. No way we could afford to pay for it but it sure as hell beat the trip over!!
