View Full Version : Tailored RAF Underpants for a wedding

Why does this seem like a loose copy of the earlier thread, "Tailored RAF shirts for a wedding"?
Are you off to the same wedding or something?;)

Anyhow, you'll probably get the answers in the other thread.

Gentlemen,

I'm looking for nicely tailored RAF blue underpants to wear with No 1 dress instead of the cheap and nasty issued ones.

The army seem to go in for this sort of thing while we put up with underpants made by the very cheapest bidder...

Does anyone know a good tailor?

thanks,

EOSM37

RAF shreddies were in a class of ther own. M&S J Lewis et al have never come close to emulating this classic item (for the use of) underwear

Class indeed and versatile. Apart from their primary use could be worn as head sun protection and when necessary as filters.

RAF shreds are specially tailored... They allow more room for the larger gonads than you're average grunt, fish head or bootie possess... and you should see the enormous size of the "pouch" on a Rockape's shreds... :E

How appropriate to have 'per Ardua ad Astra' on the waistband.....

Not sure about the rolled up pair of aircrew socks maety-boy has stuffed down the front though....:ooh:

One always thought the RAF ones were Y Fronts, whilst the Royal Navy's were Y Fronts and Y Backs, and the Army has the words front and rear sown onto them. :E

They cannot be donned back-to front because they are stamped C and A......

Does anyone recall the QR that required 'Flight Commanders to inspect the underwear of trainees, under 18, on a weekly basis' (or words to that effect)?

We have some fun posting dummy SRO's to new WRAF Officers and new LACs posted to Leeming in the early '80's.

Alas, the 'fun police' spoiled the joke after a 1 v1 took it seriously.

No idea, you'd have to ask a truckie. But I gather that they don't spend much time Internetting when down route.

Perhaps some ex-31 :ooh: Jag mate could assist you with your enquiries?

Actually the RAF Collection is way out in front of everyone else times wise.......

They are hosting the films of

The BBMF display @ Biggin Hill in 2097
The RAF Chinook display team @ Waddington 2096
The Typhoon at Waddington 2096
and various others at Biggin in 2097

see

Welcome to RAF Collection (http://www.rafcollection.com/ecart/control/videos)#

Good to see we are getting our monies worth from the Chinook, so just before the 115 anniversary of the RAF chinooks entry into service, do you think by then they will have managed to arrange a proper anniversary hangar party where all involved were invited, alas I doubt I will be still here, but if I arrange for my ashes to be placed in a RAF Collection holdall, will someone take me along to it?

BBMF ain't doing to bad either at about 150 odd years service :p

If rumours are to be believed, you will be able to select something suitable this coming Friday.

The House of Fraser store in Lincoln is launching a new range of mens underwear and 6 "poseurs" from Cranditz will be present to model said items, surely not part of an E & E exercise ??

Now that is something to stir the memory!!!

If she was wearing issue RAF undies, then at least the procurement system gets things right occasionally!!

Noooo, cannot possibly be a 31 squadron item of clothing, although the line "putting an end to panty-lines" suggest it is, the cut is far to generous for a member of 31 Sqn..... pun intended. :E

During one's RAF time one always used the same high class tailor for one's under garments.

Matthew Alan.

Big stores in every town and retail park now, but these days one has noticed that he uses the shortened form of his Christian name..... ;)
