The 2011 Gordon Bennett Balloon race is now underway.

Currently, two German balloons are in the lead, followed closely by a UK team.

All landed before sunset - several in Innsbruck area or to the E/NE of there, except the 2009 winners in France 1 who seem to be braving the risk of thunderstorms forecast in the Salzburg area. LAst tracking showed them at 4500m high south of Salzburg, track 056º. GB team landed in 3rd place (now 4th) because of storms around the area.

I heard the following on Bremen information near Berlin a couple of weeks ago:
"Bremen, this is free gas balloon D-xxxx. I've been on your frequency for several hours now and wondering if I should change to Frankfurt information?" Bremen: "No, stay with me for an hour or two longer".
