Hi there!

I have a question I think could be answered on this forum and would be grateful for your help...
Atmospheric conditions will obviously depend on, among other things, location. Consider, say, 12,000 feet at the equator and north pole: at the north pole the pressure will be less (correct?!). So, if one were to climb to this altitude it would feel more like 14,000 ft perhaps at the equator. Can anyone offer a semi-technical reason for this general variation of pressure with location. Even a link to a page that discusses this (I could find nothing) would be useful.

Many thanks in advance.
