Hi evryone,
I intend to do the PPL Radiotelephony exam.
Bought the Trevor Thom book. Does anyone know if the last chapter, chapter 12 (Radio wave propagation & long range communication) of this book is included in the exam. It's just that it says that this chapter is for those who have a deeper interest in radio, and for those who might use long-range HF radio.
Thanks

There are no questions on those 2 subjects in the PPL exam, they are covered in the ATPL exams.

As regards books, the only book you really need to know for both the written & practical tests is CAP317, the radiotelephony handbook.

Good Luck in your tests.

As Meeb says CAP 317 contains the essential knowledge which you must have for both the theory and practical parts of the test. However I found it difficult to digest and not reader friendly. One of the most useful aids I found was an airband receiver which enabled me to listen in to RT between controllers and pilots at ATZs, TMAs and in the airways generally. This combined with regular practice during my PPL flight training helped me to grasp the correct phraseology and develop the necessary confidence to pass the test.
Good luck with the test.

Farshad,

Aswell as CAP413 take a look at the Safety Sense (http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/includes/ga/22leafle.pdf) Leaflets.

I found that this helped me enormously.

But make CAP413 your bible for the test.

Good luck
