DME Arc

It was my understanding when I first learned about DME Arcs the IAF was the entire arc. But lately been hearing a lot of people say that you have to start at the beggining of the arc where it says IAF. Why don't they make the lead in radial the IAF then the problem would be solved.

The IAF is a point somewhere on the arc. You can join the arc anywhere prior to the IAF.
