Too lazy to look this one up , thinking about a microlight on floats , I know I will need to "convert" my ATPL to something that will allow me to fly a microlight , but what about the float part of it? Assuming it can be done , anybody know if you can just land your pride and joy on an open stretch of water , or do you(probably , this is UK after all) need the permission of the local harbour authority?

First you need to get the rating. There is somebody in Scotland who does it with a Piper Cub. To the best of my knowledge there is only one water airfield in the U.K, Rochester Docks. As far as I know you can not land on any lake/water w/o ppr.
