Best chairs for Ctlers

Hi Guardians of the skies...
What kind of chair do you sit on while at work?
What types would you recommend and why.

Go for the best you can. Back support is very important here, as is durability.
ATC chairs are generally in use 24/7, so they need to be comfortable and robust. Many years ago in the U.K. the state ATC organization had a basic metal-based model which swivelled in azimuth and was height adjustable. No bells and whistles, but they were built to last. You could probably fire an RPG at one and it would survive intact! i think we had ours re-covered twice. The ones used since have been plastic and fairly flimsy in comparison.
Do involve the operational staff in the selection of your chairs. At a unit I worked at recently, the human factors 'bods' who were involved in furniture design spent about £400 a shot on a high-tech 'milking-stool' that hurt your *rse after about 30 minutes. (Can't remember the brand-name off-hand).

We use these

KAB Controller Chair (http://www.workplaceoffice.co.uk/kab_controller.htm)

at our unit. They are a bit pricey but very comfortable with multiple adjustment points and inflatable lumbar support.

Only drawback is that the backs are very high which can block your view out of the window if a colleague is sat in one. Also we have high stools for OJTIs but this has also to do with visibility of the EFPS tablet.

Make sure it has a high back, otherwise it's a very devil to sleep!

You also need to be able to recline it at such an angle that it makes resting your feet on the strip board comfortable
