EUROCONTROL has just received a formal letter from the European Commission, nominating the Agency to take on the role of European ‘Network Manager’ as defined in the Single European Sky II (SES) legislation.

McMillan's stretching the truth a bit, not quite 50 years. The Organisation was established through the EUROCONTROL International Convention relating to Co-operation for the Safety of Air Navigation signed at Brussels on 13 December 1960 which entered into force on 1 March 1963.

It's only a piece of paper and the member states will carry on doing their own thing just as they always have done.

Lon, whilst Eurocontrol has never had much in the way of teeth and relied on that co-operation mentioned in the original convention, the Network Management Function is driven by the European Commission. Things will be very different in the future. Whether this is good or bad only time will tell.

Don't I know it!!! There are many tales to be told about underhand shenanigans. Dig about a bit and there are things that could make the NOTW scandal look like small beer.
