Does anybody know if the Aerlingus a320 has a Cat III b landing system?

Yes it does. The A320 is a fully equipped CAT IIIB aircraft from certification from Airbus. Therefore Aer Lingus' A320's will be fully equipped to CAT IIIB requirements.

Hope that helps :ok:

The a/c may be certified as CAT IIIB, but the operator needs to have approval to do that too. I'm sure Airlingus have it, but there are operators out there who operate A320's and don't......

The aircraft, the operator, runway and each pilot need to be certified and trained as well as being current to allow for CAT III landing. If one of them is not you can't do it.

My company's 320s are CAT IIIB capable, but we only conduct low vis operations to CATII. This is because in our operation, CATIII is simply not needed as the weather rarely gets that bad.

I can understand about the aircraft, runway and pilot. But what does the operator certification involve? Maintenance?

But what does the operator certification involve?

Ops manual, crew training, aircraft maintenance, aircraft performance monitoring, national Authority approval.
