My beloved employer (Uk Charter operator) is operating a full normal short haul programme on Xmas so lots of us are having our Xmas day converted into a normal working day transporting the shell suits!!.I,m getting up at 0330 oh joy and boxing day as well.Any other operators working ? other than the usual long haul layovers.pretty sad when commercialism has to desecrate the one remaining day of the year when aviation largely fell silent. What say you all!!.

Stampe,

First off, Merry Christmas...

I assume you are probably junior or you would have bid away from Xmas flights...

Having said that, I don't remember being junior enough to have to work when I didn't want to, probably because I love to fly.

As I gained seniority, I found myself bidding to work or switching for holiday flights for the very reasons you mentioned: The rest of Aviation has shut down, and it's usually fun to fly.

Pax are happy, ATC gives you direct, and usually the crew hangs tighter than normal because everyone's in the same boat. (er...plane)

Anyway, my advice would be to give it a try, and you'll probably have one of the best days of your career...

Good Luck, and once again, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO US ALL...

Happy Christmas Everyone.
Well, I'M WORKING but actually have just come back from a quick morning turnaround flight in time for Christmas Lunch! So it has worked out pretty good. Today was actually an OFF day for me. But someone got removed from the roster because of something else and they asked me for a 'favor' Well, gotta sacrifice for the company right? And I won't moan too much cause at least it's better than not working on Christmas cause you are Unemployed!

Bad news: I'm working (miss Christmas Eve completely in the daytime shuffle from ANC-TPE).

Good news: I'm employed!

Merry Christmas! Be thankful for what you have!

Hi Stampe, I happen to be off duty for both Christmas and New Year festivities for the first time in about 5 years.

I am certainly thankful for this but I am ever more grateful for having a flying job!

Think of all the other guys and gals who have have fallen "victim" to the recent staff axing antics while you sit back sipping your coffee at M.80 at FL350.

Merry Christmas and sincere wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Good news: I am off both xmas and nyear

Bad news: Reason is that I am one of the many made redundant recently.

I was actually rostered to go work on the 24th, but that all faded away ... it was nice though to be with the family instead of in some hotel somewhere ...

Well I made it through the day something like a 13 hour day from start to finish, the hardest part was keeping the taxi driver from nodding off on the 3 hour ride back to base he,d had a long day to.Sure do appreciate many would like to have a job to complain about. My point really was I,ve worked over quite a few Christmas,s especially on long haul but its only recently that companies have tried to fly a full short haul programme on the day itself. It was nice to have at least one quiet day of the year when perhaps the whole western world sat back contemplated and "sniffed the roses".I,ve had my late Christmas lunch so its back off to an early bed to do it all again tomorrow!!.Next year I,ll make sure I put in for leave and console myself this year that if I was off I,d only have been scheming to get out of the house and fly my light aircraft.Compliments of the season to you all!!.

Stampe,
We didn't used to work on Christmas Day. The weekly flights were switched to Christmas Eve or Boxing Day as nobody wanted to fly on Christmas Day itself. Now that we have to fly on what was a Day Off we should get the FWS payment.
Happy New Year.

I have 23 years seniority, and can't hold a line of time; I'm on reserve. I worked X-mas, & will New Years, if required. Just God-Awful Glad I Have a Job! Please, Gents (& Bints) , the flights have to be staffed, normally with junior people on holidays. But, if the chips fall badly, accept it, & staff the flights without bellyaching. There are so many who would give a testicle (or left Tit) to be in our position (with monthly paycheck) so, WTF, go with it!
