Hello Mr ATc'ers,

The notam I keep seeing about Geneva not being able to be used as an alternate. Could someone clarify as I am starting to get contradicting hearsay.

A handler said to me the other day yes of course another one said dont you dare try that! The vast majority of my colleagues are saying no you cant and even the handlers - here is the Notam, where is says schedule is that referring to the times you cannot use it at a diversion? Which is out of my sort of house anyway! thanks a pilot:)

says "planned", i think this is the key to the notam!

Agreed, they don't want to you to flight plan it as an alternate, since the runway will be closed for work during those times.

However, if you really needed to get on the ground then they could, but they'd need 30 mins notice. That would mean clearing the runway of whatever works vehicles etc. they had and would cost them a whole lot of money...

That's only an interpretation though.

Next time you're there, have a look at the size of the machine that lays the runway slabs - NOT quick to vacate and/or frangible!
