I was wondering is the 115B engine direct drive from the LP to the fan or is the fan geared? Are many fans geared or is this new as in the PW1000 only?

Why use a twin spool as opposed to a triple spool high by-pass engine? I have heard cost, oil, weight and efficiency. Cheers.
