i used to be an airband (VHF) radio enthusiast. i used to listen and watch the planes land at delhi airport. now i have moved on. i am curious about the future of airband. will it stay for for the forseable future or will it be replaced by satellite comunication? or will there be a mix ...satellite for the big guys and vhf for general aviation? is satellite com very reliable ? who runs the satellites?

I think that VHF is here to stay myself. What better way to gain situational awareness than to listen out on the radio aswell as to look out. They can't possibly introduce one set of comms for airliners and another for GA. Both need to know the whereabouts of the other. Airliners already use satellites in the form of ACARS. Also there is the need for flexibility that VHF gives. Future of VHF I think is to use more widely the 8.33KHZ spacing.
