Hello all, I'm a newbie here, but in the flying game for over 20 yrs now. I've taken an interest in the ATC side (still keeping my seat tho)

Can anyone suggest some good ATC type games?

Happy Flying!

<<Boot polish on the tower binoculars eyepieces is a good game. >>

As is duplicating ink on telephone earpieces, as I discovered to my cost during my time at Malta Control!! Took about 3 days to get it off.

As for PC type games, I've never seen one yet which bears any relation to reality simply because there aren't the requisite number of loonies sitting alongside....

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've heard of London Control before but not Radar Chaos. Radar Chaos is about a 1/4 the price of the London Control, and it looks newer??? Do you know anything about the other games on bigfat simulations? They have a whack of them.

Seems like a few vectoring games, any control tower games?

There's airport madness, but from a tower control perspective, it's pretty crappy fun. The radar version is a little more realistic. Both pretty basic.

Yeah i played airport madness on my iPhone. It was fun but maybe not what I'd like to see flying into an airport :)

Hey, does anyone know if Flightsim will EVER make another game? I've tried x-plane but still like Microsofts version.

London Control is the only hope of getting close to realism - for UK airspace anyway.

Another option is places like IVAO United Kingdom (http://ivao.co.uk) or http://vatsim-uk.org

Try doing a search on TRACON. It was made by Wesson in the mid 90's and is quite a good ATC simulator. I spent quite a lot of time playing this game. They also made a tower version.
There is also a game called ATC air traffic control for ipad which is quite good also, I use this one now for a little fun.

Yes I remember that old TRACON game also, which I believe goes as far back as the late 80's in fact. I believe it was made by Thalion.

I've played London Control which seems OK. The only thing I liked on the iPhone or iPad was Airport Madness (http://www.bigfatsimulations.com/). Flight Control and ATC both seemed too toyish with dragging everywhere.

I'm still looking for a good Vectoring game and a good tower game, if they exist. Also, I did another search for news about a new FlightSim but not much luck there either!

Thanks Shadowrun,

Nice few games on there.

I've played the london control, which is fun.
The Big Fat Simulations site has a bunch of different games... the Radar Chaos (http://www.bigfatsimulations.com/products/radarChaos.html) seems like the newest and most realistic. I'll try the free demo and then consider buying. Not bad price either.

I checked out the Tower Simulator... seems kinda expensive for what you get.

Hey Plastic Pilot... nice job!!! I'll download your iPhone game for sure. Have you made others also?

Hey Plastic Pilot,

Nice job with the iPhone game. You design with x-code yourself? I've got the lite version but will buy the other one too :)

Do you have one for the iPad also?

Play Radar Air Traffic Controller, a free online game on Kongregate (http://www.kongregate.com/games/preciouseffects/radar-air-traffic-controller)

A decent little web based game.

Yeah, got a couple of great ATC board games from the 1970's, Airways and Air Traffic Control. Absolutely great fun to play when you have the lads around for a few beers. Welcome to ATC in the 1970's, 'Roger, wilco, over and out" :ok:

Whatmean,

I did a search but couldn't find anything about old ATC "board games" that you mentioned. Did they look like monopoly or scrabble? That sort of board game?

Got any pictures?

Thanks 3.5 :)

This is a universal binary, the same will run on iPhone and on iPad, supporting the full iPad resolution. See screenshots on APP Control – Air Traffic Control Game (http://www.appcontrolgame.com)

And yes, I made it all by myself with XCode (and a serious development background).

More like monopoly I would say. I bought them on e-bay a few years ago, try ebay.co.uk and search air traffic control under games, it might give you ones for sale. They are dreadfully bad to say the least. When one of the positions on the board says 'we are cruising at 20,000ft' on a transatlantic flight you kind of have to wonder what type of aircraft we are talking about. :ok:

VerdeBlanco,

Yeah that's a neat game too. I think that one is free somewhere??? But it's just a vectoring game close in, unlike the others that have multiple airports and more airspace, like a terminal environment!

the best by far is Visual Vectoring....it is an actual ATC training tool in use by several countries througout the world, and last I heard they were going to release an actual simulator of Hong Kong approach and a few other busy airports...

I looked at the visual vectoring site, and although it looked very interesting, there wasn't anything to play with or test with. Not even an aptitude thing. Are the rest of us missing something?

Does anyone know if there are actually simulators for ATCO's like we have? I remember hearing years ago that they had old radar sims much like the old link or procedures trainers that got replaced around the time I started flying.

Any ATC out there to comment?

I just got this emailed to me.

Apparently there is a voice activated ATC simulator game. It's a bit pricy but sounds very interesting:

ATC Suite by feelThere (http://www.atcsuite.com/)

Still, better value is the Radar Chaos (http://www.bigfatsimulations.com/products/radarChaos.html). Both are top-down view and both look to be exciting, just different from each other.

I wonder about the voice recognition that is used. Future commercial application? Thoughts?

Shadowrun,

I did acknowledge the games you mentioned. Two I had already seen and my apologies, I didn't see the note about the 2011 release soon. Please let me know when it's out there.

In actuality, there are plenty of good games - all have there benefits... and drawbacks. What I stated was just my shock at some prices though, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Here's the list so far of what's available, in no particular order:

I just received an update from the Radar Chaos game I bought. They tweeked a few flight parameters and other stuff, but basically I've played every level now (but not at the most challenging levels) and it's probably one of the better ATC games I've played recently.
Air Traffic Control Game - Radar Chaos (http://www.bigfatsimulations.com/products/radarChaos.html)

As far as a flight simulator I'm still most impressed with X-Plane!

Hi guys,

I've just found this free downloadable game. It seems pretty good so far, and in my books beats atc-sim.com hands down.

It has a very limited choice of airports, which is a major problem, although EGLL is availible to download (also for free...), but the main perk of it, is voice recognition. Seems pretty cool :)

'ATC Chief', by mindjolt games is superb, and more intense than the real thing. You should be able to find it via Google.
Ended up in a challenge with an ex-ATC colleague on evening. Had to have a 30 minute break after 1 and !/2 hours.
Great fun. :ok:

VATSIM! It's a network where virtual pilots fly with Microsoft Flight Simulator, Prepar3d or X-Plane. ATC are real persons and it's all online. Real procedures are followed and there are strict rules.

Just google it to find out more yourself. I had some fun there as virtual pilot.

I like BigFatSimulations' games, some are more casual than others.
I highly recommend the Radar Chaos series, specially Hawaii Edition (the most realistic and fun to play, IMO).

Hi! There's a new one, still in alpha, made by Estonian ATCOs called Flight Level.
It can be found on Steam. Can't post links, not enough posts :)

Disclaimer: I'm one of the devs. A pilot mate suggested I should share here what we're up to.

It's a radar sim for APP and ACC, but as we devs are all ACC controllers, the APP part is a bit behind, but we are working on it :)
The pilots are automated and clearances are given by clicking in the aircraft label - we intend FL to be a entry point to radar ATC and think that having to learn the phraseology before being able to play would be detrimental.
