Does anyone know of a good book on avian flight? I've read quite a lot about human flying machines and how they work and would like to read up on how its done by da liddell boids (big ones too).

EG: some birds (such as seagulls and raptors) seem to be semi-aerobatic, but presumably no bird flies inverted.

EG: is it true that some species of migratory bird can fly IMC?

EG: Why are swans even worse at landing than I am (and I've been guilty of some right old crunchers)?

EG: Is it true that Dodo QFI ratings are impossible to renew because of some impenetrable bit of JAR-FCL?

Seriously though, is there a decent book on bird flight?

Your best bet is to search through amazon UK or US:
www.amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com) www.amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk)

They have editorial and reader reviews on lots of books which gives you a good idea of content. Also have a look on any birdies website. Maybe the RSBP (http://www.rspb.org/).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. My searches on Amazon have thus far drawn a blank, but I will try RSPB and other twitcher sites. Cheers.
