I've bought 2. The 1st for the company I work for, the 2nd when my supplier was selling them at -50% for myself. The company-bought one had to be replaced after 3 years of hard and continuous office use. The one I bought personally for use at home abruptely stopped printing last Monday, with "wrong cartridge" error on the LCD screen.
I've since contacted CANON France's service dept., who can only offer sending the MP780 to an authorised service station for repair. However, the CANON technician I had on the phone, explained that the "wrong cartridge" message may in fact signify that the complete print-head has to be replaced (so why not "print head" error or "print head needs replacing" instead of the former vague message?!
Whatever, I've tried searching for an (easy) solution on the web since, just in case the "wrong cartridge" error wasn't serious. I've cleaned the print-head with alcohol swabs, the ink cartidges themselves etc. to no avail. I've also learned how to put the MP780 into both service and factory modes and played about with these too, all to no avail.
Yesterday, I ordered a complete new CANON print-head QY6-0049-000 for this printer (total cost €75.35 inc VAT and delivery) which I should receive Thursday / Friday. Hopefully, replacement of the print-head was the source of the original problem and the solution. However, having "played about" with the service and factory settings, I'm unsure that once the new print-head is installed, that will be the end to the problem, or the beginning of resolving new problems created by gits such as myself having delved into areas restricted for CANON service technicians...?!
The company has said that they will reimburse me for the new print-head. But they replaced our old CANON MP780 with a HP multi-function product without consulting me (I have a fervent hatred of all HP appliances but especially their after-sales service).
Before installing the new CANON print-head once received, can anyone here tell me how to "completely reset" the MP780 (and whatever settings might have been tampered with inadvertently during my voyage through the "service and factory" modes...?! :O
