Can anybody enlighten me? 'Date of last PC' is referred to on an application form. I assume it is an American term. Does this mean a base check, or what?

You know, I never thought of "PC" as an American term, but since the question is raised:
The FAA ATP does not expire, nor do any type ratings attached thereto.
Depending which part of the FAR's a pilot is going to be operating under (FAR 121, 135, 125 or 129) the PC must be done under certain standards.
However, if an FAA ATP were to fly a non-"November" a/c, then the "PC" would be just a sim check on type.
The FAA doesn't care what an FAA Certificated Airman does in a non-"N" registered a/c.
"PC" stands for Proficiency Check.

Thanks for the explanation - a lot of new terminology is creeping in under the JAA system. Some of us Brits still think in terms of a 'base check' and 'instrument rating'.
