I am planning a flight down to Wadi Halfa (Sudan) in a Maule. I'd be interested in any information people could share!

- Is there AVGAS at Heraklion?
- Is there AVGAS at Alexandria?
- Can anyone offer advice on flying into Wadi in a GA aircraft? I'd appreciate any tips on accomodation, getting through the airport, etc!

The Sudan Embassy suggests that for aircraft crew staying no longer than 72 hours, a visa is not required, which makes life easier.

Drop me an email. I delivered an aircraft down there last year and there are a lot more issues than just getting fuel. You may well have to tank the Maul.

I assume its fixed now hence the trip being back on?

- Is there AVGAS at Heraklion? No. AOPA Hellas F.A.Q. (http://www.aopa.gr/en/faq.asp)

- Is there AVGAS at Alexandria? No.

Both have Customs though.

There is avgas at 6th October though - see recent prpune posts here by the Egyptian pilot.

For Crete I would strongly recommend LGST (http://www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/crete2/index.html). Customs and avgas, though limited opening hours. A truly lovely place for a stay too.

The logical route is - > Croatia - Corfu - Sitia - Alexandria for customs - 6th Oct - Luxor / whatever.

Thanks for the information so far in this thread, and by email; very helpful. The Maule has auxiliary tanks with 8-9 hours endurance, so my planned route is:

Rotterdam - Cannes - Scalea (Italy) - Crete - Alex/Cairo - Wadi

Wadi - Alex/Cairo - Crete - Albania - Salzburg - Rotterdam

Albania has only one airport (LATI) which has no avgas. 250 euros, including the charge for runway lights (they probably assume you nick a few :) ). Been there in 2006. There is a very well dressed local "business community".

Actually I think there may be a 2nd airport there now; I recall seeing something recently.

Far far far better to stop at Dubrovnik LDDU, if you need something very close.

BP had avgas at Iraklion in February. GA is not too popular there in summer though and you would be better off at Sitia if their opening
hours suit.

Also be aware credit cards are not accepted for anything in Sudan. Only USD cash.

I thought Wadi Halfa was now under the Aswan High Dam?
