This'll probably get moved to the Questions forum, but thought it might provoke some sort of response here.

Last night I went to pick my mother up from LGW after her flight from Alicante on Air2000, flight number DP185 (landed at 22:52 if memory serves).

She tells me that they waited a surprisingly long time for their baggage to reach the carousel but for over an hour, in true British style, the PAX moaned a little but didn't say anything to anyone. Eventually, my mother's patience exhausted, she asked someone at Gatwick Handling (or one of the other handling companies, can't remember which) what the problem was, only to be told that 'the hold had to be sprayed because of a fly infestation'.

Don't suppose the flight crew or ops people might be able to tell me what on earth actually happened, could they?

As part of a connected Tour Op! We've heard nothing. Sounds like a handlers excuse to me!
