"You may land after the aircraft in front has cleared the runway"

Does this apply to me in my helicopter when I can come to the hover half a mile away from the aircraft in front?

If ATC say so, then presumably yes although it doesn't make much sense. Perhaps the ATCO is not too familar with your type of aircraft or method of arrival and therefore has to play by the rules for any aircraft landing after. (I would re-post this in the ATC forum).

Whatever, watch out for the wake turbulence and jet-wash behind a big one, even on landing. (Egg sucking lesson endeth).
