A Virgin 747 carried out a number of low, slow orbits over Warrington last Wednesday (18th), anyone know why?

Don't know why, just wanted to confirm with you. I saw it as well and can remember thinking at the time it was stange. As to why?, no ideas.

The only nav feature in that area is the Whitegate NDB. Is this used as a hold for Manchester?

Other explanations - crew training? Diversion into LPL?

It might've be for training. I've seen the Virgin 747 carry out at least a couple of go-arounds at Liverpool. Seemed to us they were training. But I was still outside the A/C so couldn't hear on the radio.
