Just how does some of this stuff get nicked??

BBC News - Thieves steal plane fuselage and ship's anchor from MoD (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12857903)

The most valuable single item to be stolen was a helicopter rotor tuner worth £50,000, which was taken in November.

WTF......how?? Why??

Having said that I don’t know why I surprised. I used to be the proud owner of a Sqn miscellaneous inventory which consisted of everything from dustbins to state of the art SX386 computers and 9pin dot matrix printers. Some people will nick anything as I found out:ugh:

A fuselage, whilst bad enough, is somewhat transportable, depending on what it is.

But an entire BRIDGE????????????

But an entire BRIDGE????????????

Presumeably a Bailey-type mobile bridge....?

Have the MOD plods thought about looking on E-bay?

Good to see that this story came from a serious source and not some nu nu laboor MP with 5 minutes experience trying to make a name for herself by a bit of political muck rakeing.

Wait one: Luciana Berger - Labour and Co-operative MP for Liverpool Wavertree (http://www.lucianaberger.com/)

National disgrace = Labour 1997 - 2010.

Maybe someone forgot to make sure it was off their inventory:

Why so negative......... RAF up two spare wings is probably how the MOD would describe it........

I wonder how much was actually stolen as opposed to 'unaccountable for' or in other words moved from A to B to C legitimately but the paper work never caught up.

Indeed.

Perhaps the bridge was this one, that's missing out of an Engineer Park somewhere.

I remember a hoohaa about a fair quanity of titanium going missing a few years back when the civvy contractors who took over responsibility for the scrap compound at 'an RAF airfield' just threw the keys to the guy who had turned up to collect ferous scrap rather than do as the previously responsible servicemen had always done, escort the scrappy to the yard.

The scrappy, when contacted during the investigation, apparently didn't know anything about the titanium and nothing could be proved.

Rumour had it that the Atlantic Conveyor was not sunk by enemy action in 1982 - it actually sank because of the weight of equipment allegedly on board as sworn to by multitudes of inventory holders. :}

That and the realisation by some on the ship who had put the bar to good use, that their cheques cashed heading South were in the safe, and the safe was now at the bottom of the Atlantic. :E

The Iraqis were always accomplished at this type of thing. I remember in Basrah in 2007 some 'insurgents' broke into camp and nicked the gennie running the Watchman, and also a couple of guys half inched a 55 seater coach and just drove it out of the main gate!

Not to mention the time we were engines running and the fekkers tried to nick the fire truck from the fire bay not 100 yards from us. No wonder what they could have done with such a powerful vehicle, doesnt bear thinking about really.

Goods worth 700k out of an inventory of squillions - not bad going. 635 MPs managed to embezzle that out of our pockets every year!!!

No irony that the Honourable Member represents part of Liverpool:E

Now I am really confused. The article states that
"These officers provide an effective deterrent to potential criminals, by raising the awareness of staff, service personnel, service families and contractors."

but the article states that "Guns, a bridge and Army ration packs also went missing. In total, goods worth nearly £700,000 were taken in the UK."

hmmm

effective deterrent

goods worth nearly £700,000 were taken in the UK.

effective deterrent

goods worth nearly £700,000 were taken in the UK.

Hang on I get it now. It should read "These officers don't provide an effective deterrent to potential criminals, because goods worth nearly £700,000 were taken in the UK. "

They just needed to combine the two statements.

Ms Berger, MP for Liverpool Wavertree, asked for a breakdown of items worth £100 or more which had been stolen from the MoD since the government took office.

Did she ask for what was "stolen" during the past Labour Govt:ugh: or those MP's visiting Southwark Crown Court on a one way ticket:D

XD 183, a Whirlwind 10, crashed in Malaysia during the Besatu Padu exercise in 1970. It was the only Rolls Royce Griffon powered helicopter in the RAF. It must have been, because two of them appeared on its inventory.

The guns are worrying but it's the stolen bridge I can't get over.

I'll get my coat.

Hold on, who's had my coat? Robbin' bast . . .

Youve got the wrong end of the telescope....she was raising the issue that only 700k of kit had been stolen.

Must try harder.

The 'fuselage' was actually a couple of Nimrod side panels - see Jet Blast (http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/446846-mod-loses-plane-fuselage-2.html#post6393710) for details.
