View Full Version : Renew LPC on Legacy or not? Advice please ...

I am considering renewing my LPC on Legacy 145/135 but having been made redundant nearly 2 years ago, am unsure of the wisdom of this move given the current economic climate. Appreciate any advice as a self funded renewal is not cheap, but the alternative is to remain out of check and as such unemployable should a last minute job opportunity arise. If anyone else is considering the same please PM me. None of us has a crystal ball but any constructive advice is better than none at all. Thanks .... Giz.

I sympathise with your situation, but I would say, unless your rating was about to lapse, then self funding an LPC would be almost pointless.

Assuming you would be getting commercial work on someone's AOC then they would need to give you an OPC anyway...... very easy to do a combined LPC/OPC for minimal extra expense.

Good luck, the job market is improving..... more slowly than any of us would like, but it is definitely improving.

Unfortunately, the Legacy Type Rating is the same for the venerable EMB135/145 of which there are many drivers with lots of hours out there, looking for work. So, I honestly do not think this is a good investment - unless you have a definite job-opportunity.

Maybe you know a TRE who's going to be near a SIM in the near future and you can cut a deal about a LPC. Costs a lot less that the whole thing at FSI... :ok:

Swiss Aviation Training are about 1/4 the price of FlightSafety.

Unfortunately Swiss Aviation will not accept individuals whether they have their own TRE or not. Will only accept bookings via training companies. They e-mailed me last week with the info.

They were happy to take me as long as I came with a co-pilot. They will not do individuals but will do complete crews. Maybe things have changed recently but they were looking for work just like everyone else!

They have their own TRE's so may have been put off if you suggested that.
