I wonder if these will be 14 A380's to replace our ageing 744. Why else did we get such a deep discount on our A330.

I wonder why we are buying a 748 simulator for 10 aircraft?

the -8 sim will make more money than the aircraft will...

I believe that the new sim will be interchangeable. 400 or -8 and will also be able to switch engine configurations. Oh joy how much fun will a PC be!!

I also think it is replacing one of the clapped out sims, so will still have plenty of work, at least until the 21 pax -400s are retired.

Sorry McDude, but that is just an ignorant statement.

I am pretty sure CX will make huge money with a 747-8F that carries 16% more volume and weight than the -400 and burns the same amount of fuel doing it. Perhaps the 777F would have been a better purchase, but I am quite certain renting out sim time is a less profitable business than lifting cargo out of Hong Kong.

My guess is the 14 aircraft still in negotiations are six 777F and eight 748I or A380. I understand Qantas is looking to turn away 8 of their remaining 11 A380 deliveries. So maybe CX gets a deal on those???

I read in the press (yeah, take it with a grain of salt) that these 14 orders will NOT be for A380s nor 747-8Is

cxorcist,

that's the first I've heard that QF may want to release some of their 380 orders. Apart from the RR engine thing, I thought they were pretty happy with the 380.

Longreach,

By the sound of your name, you would know better than me. I was just passing along a rumor I heard from an Ozzie I flew with recently. He said QF likes them for the kangaroo route, but not so much for the Pacific.
