I currently fly using a garmin 495.
One of the features I like about is that I can use Memory Map on my PC to "draw a route" on a digital CAA chart and then quickly export this to the 495.

I will shortly be flying an aircraft fitted with a G1000. Does anyone know if I can do the same thing with Memory Map etc?

I think the only way to transfer a flight plan from a PC to a G1000 is by using Jeppesen Flitestar, and then converting the routepack with the Jepp/Garmin flight plan migrator (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=35228) converter (which is just a program I think) and this will write it onto a flash cartridge which you insert into the G1000. However I am not sure if the migrator supports a G1000 now.

Yes the Flitestar flight plan migrator supports the G1000 - works fine. Just do the track on the PC (VFR or IFR) and export onto an SD card (File menu), put the SD card into the top slot on the G1000 MFD, then load the flight plan from this.
